4 Different Ways You Can Ingest ABV At Home

Abv or already been vaped marijuana, still has a ton of active compounds. Learning how to use abv in pleasurable ways allows you to double up on your marijuana.

Abv is high in CBD, and since it’s already decarbed, it’s good to go in many different types of edibles.

In this post, I look at 4 different ways you can ingest abv and some tips to help you deal with the taste.

If I’m going to eat abv, tinctures are my preferred method of ingestion. Tinctures are easy to make, they’re versatile, and the taste isn’t too horrible.

Abv tinctures are commonly referred to as “golden dragon”.

There are a ton of tincture recipes that ill link to that’ll get you started.

The long & short of it though is that you’re using very strong alcohol as a solvent to remove the THC & other active chemicals from your abv.

The higher % of your alcohol, the more potent your tincture is going to be.

Ideally, Everclear, 91% alcohol, is the best option for making tinctures. It’s strong & Everclear has no taste so your tincture won’t have a weird rum taste.

However, for people like me in Canada or in the UK, with no access to Everclear, we have to get creative.

I’ve had some great results using Bacardi 151 to make tinctures. The end result is going to have some rum/cinnamon hints of flavor. Bacardi 151 is 75% and does a pretty solid job of making a strong tincture.

However, I think 75% is the lowest alcoholic percentage you can go for homemade tinctures. I’ve tried 63%, and it wasn’t enjoyable. If I let a 63% tincture sit for a few days, I’m sure it might end up being ok, but 63% just isn’t going to pull enough THC and other stuff off your abv. But give it a try if 63% (usually Wray & Newphew) is all you have access to.

Some ideas to keep in mind while making tinctures:

  • Try freezing your alcohol before starting the process. Apparently, cold alcohol does a better job as a solvent.
  • Grind your abv as much as possible. The finer your abv, the easier it is to pull off those active compounds.

Now here’s a controversial step I take:

I’ve had success taking abv, pouring 75% alcohol on it, mixing it a few times and immediately dosing.

Obviously, the longer you let it sit, the more powerful it gets. But I’ve had it work right away.

I honestly don’t think there’s any need to soak your abv for weeks or months at a time. If you’re using strong enough alcohol (more than 75%), the THC should come off within 24-48 hours.

After you soak your abv for a week, you’re just dissolving the other nonpsychoactive chemicals in abv that you don’t need.  Eventually you’re just extracting the chlorophyll and other natural chemicals in the flower.

One final note about tinctures is personally I stay away from the methods that use heat reduction. Using heat to evaporate the alcohol will make it so you can dose with a few drops instead of a full spoonful. If you feel confident in your ability to do this safely and you have the necessary equipment, go for it. However, it’s not a necessary step to make a strong tincture.

Tincture recipes:

Abv works quite well in edibles. All you have to do is use a lot of fat and grind your abv as fine as possible.

If you take home a box of brownie mix from the store, just follow the instructions as normal – but you’re going to add in extra fat (oil or butter) & the abv.

Abv edibles aren’t bad at all. Just make sure you grind your bud well, so you’re not chewing on chunky brownies or cookies. And I can’t stress using lots of fat enough.

Technically firecrackers are an edible, but I thought they deserved their own section. Firecrackers are the cornerstone meal for anyone into abv.abv firecrackers

Basically, firecrackers use 4 different ingredients:

  • Crackers of your choice
  • Peanut butter (natural obv)
  • Something sweet (honey, syrup, jam, etc. Nutella is ok but dry)
  • Extra fat (oil or butter)

Because abv is already decarbed, you can combine the above ingredients and just eat it raw. However, most people usually cook their firecrackers in the oven for about 20 minutes.

Alternatively, you can also wrap your firecrackers in tinfoil and let them sit in a dark area to strengthen.

For the professional abv connoisseur, this is like ordering a steak blue.

Raw abv isn’t for the faint of heart, but it works.

Like with all other forms of ingestion, raw abv works best when it’s grinded finely.2.5 ounces of abv

The main problem with eating abv raw is that it’s hard for your intestines and stomach to process. This is why people who take 10-gram hero doses often report feeling nothing and just having a stomachache.

Here are a few different ways I like to eat abv raw:

Quick, simple and easy. PB & J’s are usually the go-to method for ingesting raw abv. There isn’t much method required here: just make sure you use lots of fat and your favorite ingredients to mask the taste.

McFlurry or any chunky ice cream

Raw abv goes pretty well in ice cream. Depending on how much abv you’re eating, I’d still drop some extra oil into your McFlurry. If you’re on the run, eating a double cheeseburger might give your body enough fat for the THC to bind to.

Milkshakes probably give you the most flavor control when it comes to abv meals. If you have a quality blender, it should turn your abv into a very fine powder.

You can add ice cream, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate syrup, regular syrup – whatever you have to mask the taste. Always remember to scoop in a few spoonfuls of oil.

Smoking abv isn’t exactly pleasant but works. Personally, I’d rather use abv to fill out a joint instead of just smoking a pure abv joint. Abv joints are harsh and will put you to sleep.

Don’t smoke abv expecting to get “high.” Smoking abv is like smoking a high CBD strain – look for the effects on your body and inflammation.

In a drink?

I don’t know if this would work & I’m not willing to test it. But providing the abv doesn’t all stick to the bottom, you could down it in a couple of gulps.

I highly recommend if you try this, do it without a carbonated beverage. Abv burps will not be pleasant. Also please record yourself doing this.

5 Easily Avoidable, But Still Common Mistakes People Make When Ingesting ABV

mistakes when eating abv

Eating abv can be a fun experience and I truly believe you don’t need to deal with stomachaches or reefer dumps in order to enjoy a powerful high.

There’s a lot of variation when it comes to ingesting abv.

The amount of THC you’ll get depends on the original strain you used and how thoroughly you vaped it.

Then, potency still relies on your method of consumption and the state of your stomach.

Next time you’re preparing an abv meal, learn from the following 5 mistakes to help you make a potent meal!

Mistake #1 Trying To Be A Hero

No matter how high we may want to get, the human body isn’t designed to digest large amounts of plant matter.

If you experience stomaches after eating a meal laced with abv – this is why. Raw plant matter is hard on your stomach and your intestines.

I really can’t think of a scenario where eating 10 grams of abv is worth my time. I got shit to do.  I live with people – I can’t have the bathroom smelling like reefer.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for high doses –  In fact, I’m going to write an article that talks about my obsession with Pheonix Tears.

But if you take abv properly, I honestly don’t believe you need to take 10-gram doses. Of course, this depends on how strong your bud is and how dark it is.

The main point here is that there are other factors in ingesting abv that are far more important than pure volume.

Mistake #2 Not Using Enough Fat

One thing that irks me is when I see people say their abv dose didn’t work. Then they turn around and say they ate the abv in a sandwich with regular peanut butter – this is just a waste.

Unless your abv is completely black, you should get some effect. At a minimum, a body high.

As I mentioned above, digesting abv is tough on your system.

When your body finally breaks down the THC, it needs something to attach itself to inside your body. This is where fat comes in. The more fat in your system, the more THC you’ll be able to pick up.

If you want a strong abv sandwich, try the following:

  • Bread of your choice
  • NATURAL NUT BUTTER (Peanut, Almond – whatever as long as it’s natural, has oil on top and tastes dry as hell)
  • Two spoonfuls of an oil of your choice (canola oil, coconut oil, sesame seed oil for stir fries)
  • Honey/Jam/Syrup – anything you can think of to mask the taste
  • A large beverage

Listen I know. Straight up scooping oil on to a sandwich – just putting additional fat into your diet -is savage. You probably shouldn’t do it often, but it works.

The amount of oil you’ll use will depend on how much abv you’re using.

More abv = more oil

Don’t be shy with the oil. It’s going to skyrocket the potency of any abv meal you eat.

Mistake #3 Eating On An Empty Stomach

This mistake ties in with the above points.

Digesting something harsh like plant matter on an empty stomach is bad news. I would be in bed all day in horrible pain.

And if I didn’t use enough fat – I wouldn’t even be high. Bad news.

Fill up. Edibles don’t work like opiates where they’re more potent on an empty stomach. Fat is the key to making edibles work.

Mistake #4 Not Using Probiotics

On a personal level – probiotics just work for me when I eat abv.

I find I get fewer stomach cramps and very little (if any) gas. I take 4-5 probiotics before I ingest the abv.

Scientifically I can’t find shit to back up what I’m saying.

Maybe filling your stomach up with healthy bacteria makes it easier to digest plant material? I know it works for greasy fast food. Give it a try, it works for me.

Mistake #5 Not Using Your ABV Another Way

If you have a ton of abv, you’re better off making a tincture or edibles. Both are easy to make.

I understand eating abv is stealthy, quick and easy so hey – do what you gotta do.

Just remember these tips. I always start my abv journeys with a high-fat meal like McDonalds.

Then I prepare the pb&j, milkshake or whatever – and I add in a few teaspoons of oil.

Ideally, I would then grind the abv to a powder in some type of processor – but this is not a luxury afforded to all of us nor do I think it’s a necessity. I do think powder abv is a lot easier to digest though.

All that’s left is to down your abv meal as quickly as possible and play the waiting game.

Hopefully, with these tips, a couple of grams will get you to where you need to be.
